FAQ

What do I Print on?

All artworks are printed on 310gsm cotton rag fine art paper which is acid-free and certified to avoid paper degradation and meet gallery longevity requirements. All prints come with a white border to allow room for the artists signature, artwork title and numbering if part of a limited edition collection. Finished paper size is inclusive of this border. Framed print sizes are inclusive of the finished timber framing and also printed with the white border for artwork and artist details.

How are your frames made and constructed?

My timber mouldings are made from locally sourced, sustainable Victorian Ash. The timber is milled, hand sanded and painted by professional framers. All my frames (except the 300 x 200mm size) are the shadowbox style, where the work is set back from the museum grade plexiglass for a very modern gallery look. The frames are produced from Victorian ash which has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. FSC certification provides the highest level of protection for rare and endangered forests and wildlife of any existing forest certification scheme and is the only system that mandates consultation with local Indigenous Peoples. In addition to hand-crafted frames, I use 3mm plexiglass - a shatter-proof, museum-grade alternative to glass which also protects your work from UV damage and fading over time.

How long will it take ship my order?

I make all of my artworks to order. Most prints will be underway within 24-48 hours of placing your order and then carefully packaged ready for shipping. Framed prints will require a longer lead time to combine our printing and framing partners to do their best work. Framed prints are generally ready to ship 10-14 days after placing your order.

How long does shipping take?

Shipping times vary depending on where you are in the world, the item you order and delays during busy periods. Please note you will receive tracking once your order has been shipped. Please email sales@philgallagher.com if your order is urgent. As a guideline, I ask that Australian customers should allow 5 to 7 business days for prints and 10-14 days for frame artworks. International customers should allow 10 to 14 business days for all orders.

Do you ship all items internationally?

Not all items sorry, but here is what I can do for you. I do not ship finished framed prints internationally due to their fragile nature, weight and therefore hefty shipping costs. Only unframed fine art prints are shipped around the globe. However, I do love to help you connect with a local quality framer in your area if you are looking to purchase artworks which are unframed and save on the hefty shipping then have the print framed locally. I always suggest that all artworks are framed by a professional to ensure a high quality finished product.

Are shipments insured?

All pieces are fully insured for damage. Though rare, from time to time it does happen. Please notify us within 2 days of receiving your package so that we can submit a claim to the courier company. Include photos of the damage to the frame and photos of the packaging.

What about duties and taxes?

We only charge taxes to Australian customers (where GST applies) which is shown in the listed prices. International customers, you will not be charged these but you will be responsible for any duties, VAT, taxes or surcharges levied or charged by your country, so please check with local authorities prior to placing your order to confirm taxes and duties.

What sort of packaging do you use?

All prints unframed and framed are carefully and packaged to withstand the stress of shipping and ensure you receive the highest quality product. Unframed prints are rolled, wrapped and then shipped in secure tubes. Frames are wrapped and boxed for shipping and are ready to hang as soon as you pull them out of the box. I try to minimise the packaging for environmental reasons but always ensure there is a healthy balance between the protection of your new artwork and environmental responsibility. I’m am always looking to improve and evolve with new packaging options as they come to market. For more on how I as a company look at sustainability, please see the section below.

What efforts are being put into environmental sustainability?

I'm constantly exploring new ways to refine my packaging solutions and reduce waste. We offer a standard set of sizes for framed and unframed prints to reduce waste, limit the amount of packaging (whilst still ensuring protection) and use either recycled or biodegradable materials where possible. I print to a 310 gsm 100% cotton rag, which is considered the most environmentally of photographic paper as it uses no tree fibres, instead it is produced from a recycled by-product of the textile making industry. This is still using cotton but is a by-product, it is considered to have a low environmental impact as no cotton is grown specifically to make the paper stock. I use Polycell EcoPure, a biodegradable bubble wrap alternative which is designed to be a degradable plastic in landfill overtime. I also package the frames in cartons from 3BC stock which is comprised of 77% recycled content and 33% from FSC certified kraft fibres. There are elements of the process which still do not offer an alternative when it comes to keeping the quality high, but I hope with time alternatives will become available.
